Alliance for Quality Nursing Home Care Applauds CMS Initiative Publicly Identifying Facilities Requiring Improvement

Washington, DC –The following is a statement by Alan G. Rosenbloom, President of the Alliance for Quality Nursing Home Care, in reaction to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) initiative publicly identifying long term care facilities in need of improvement:

“The long term care provider community has led the healthcare sector in improving transparency and expanding the public disclosure of key quality data -- and we commend and strongly support the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) initiative to publicly identify those facilities requiring improvement.

“The collaborative government-provider quality improvement programs now successfully underway are indeed bringing about more accountability, and spurring increased competition among facilities. This is beneficial to every consumer, the regulatory authorities, federal and state lawmakers, and providers themselves.

“We are excited about the rapid pace of improved quality measurement standards in our health care sector, cognizant of our responsibility to continue being a catalyst for innovation that enhances consumer knowledge and choice, and committed to continue improving the quality of long term care for the benefit of every retiree today, and in the years and decades ahead.”
