Quality

The Alliance for Quality Nursing Home Care is committed to continuously promoting quality improvements among our members and the broader skilled nursing community. We believe that every one of our nation’s nursing facility patients deserves the highest quality care. The Alliance also recognizes the valuable role quality programs have in supporting a progressive workplace that fosters a positive caregiving environment that leads to improved patient care.

In July 2002, as part of a broader initiative to improve quality care at America’s nursing facilities, the Alliance developed the Quality First Pledge and Code of Conduct. The pledge outlines specific and measurable steps to improve quality outcomes in nursing facilities over time. The Quality First Pledge is signed by every Alliance member company. The Alliance also supports Advancing Excellence in America’s Nursing Homes, a national campaign designed to help nursing facilities achieve excellence in the quality of care and quality of life for all their residents and patients.

In September 2009, the Alliance released the first ever Quality Report, demonstrating measurable improvements in many areas of skilled nursing and rehabilitative care. The Alliance, in partnership with the American Health Care Association, releases this report to showcase quality trends and report on changes within the skilled nursing care community, including shifts within patient population and expanded services including modern therapies and specialized care. In issuing this annual report, the Alliance remains committed to continued improvements, while always challenging ourselves to do better.

2011 Annual Quality Report: An Update on the Quality of Care in America’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Facilities

The Alliance and American Health Care Association partnered again in 2011 to release an Annual Quality Report, which details positive trends in nursing facility quality and identifies key areas of focus for future quality efforts.

As the national leaders in skilled nursing and post-acute care, the Alliance and AHCA collaborated for the third consecutive year to compile government-measured, quality data that illustrate recent advances in quality improvement. Expert analyses from independent researchers examine the rehabilitation capabilities of SNFs, trends in skilled nursing care and the need for quality measures to effectively evaluate rehabilitation outcomes among an increasingly diverse patient population. Expert report contributors also address approaches to improving care transitions and reducing hospital readmissions for Medicare beneficiaries.
